Derby Royal Infirmary
London Road Community hospital
A large part of the hospital has now been closed with services moving to the new Royal Derby Hospital on the edge of town. The result is that the old buildings are now rapidly falling into dereliction through a mixture of neglect and vandalism. A housing development is planned with, hopefully, some of the more historic parts of the hospital retained and reused.
Demolition work has now started on the old part of the DRI site (23/03/2015). The site has not yet been sold to a developer, however the owners have decided to take out a loan in order to clear the site in order to make it easier to market. It is unclear if any of the existing buildings are going to be kept but I think it looks unlikely. Below is an album of photos of the demolition so far.
